Quercetin

Quercetin is a flavonoid commonly found in fruits and vegetables, most notably in apples and onions. Its clinical significance and interest stems from its anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and caffeine-like properties. [1]  Recently, however, research suggests that quercetin could also play a role in the treatment of cancer. Studies highlight its ability to diminish cellular viability and promote apoptosis by impeding metabolic pathways that facilitate glucose processing and mitochondrial function [2]. Its anti-carcinogenic profile could be effective in supplementing existing chemotherapeutic treatment regimens.

Breast Cancer: Quercetin has demonstrated inhibitory effects on breast cancer cell lines by impeding their glucose metabolic pathways, indicating its potential as an adjuvant therapy for breast cancer treatment [6].

Colorectal Cancer: Studies suggest that quercetin's metabolic roadblock effect can diminish cellular viability and increase cellular destruction of colorectal cancer cell lines [7].

Ovarian Cancer: Research has explored quercetin's pro-apoptotic properties in ovarian cancer cells, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic agent in this context [8].
